S/4HANA Migration

If you’re anything like most SAP customers, the road ahead for your business leads to S/4HANA. Of course, you can treat this purely as an upgrade, and do a technical migration; but the majority of our customers take advantage of this move – which, after all, affects core systems and data – to transform their business, and refresh their processes and capabilities from the ground up.

Data discovery can lead the way

Whether you overhaul your entire operation or go for targeted tweaks, there are two ways to go about it:

  • You can build an entirely new S/4HANA environment
  • You can opt for a selective transformation (what SAP calls Selective Data Transition), using your your original ECC system as a template and applying change in a targeted way

So how do you decide which path is right for you? That’s where your data comes in. It’s one of the richest sources of insight to guide and inform your S/4HANA project. This makes the planning stage of a transformation the perfect moment to take an inventory of your data estate. (Except most businesses leave it way too late! It’s our pet peeve and you can read more about it here). We call this stocktake Data Discovery and it allows you to see the road ahead a lot more clearly. Data Discovery insight helps you to…

  • Understand exactly what data you have, across systems and organisations
  • See how much of it is in use (and what could be archived)
  • Assess its quality (so you can plan for cleansing and improvement)
  • Plan your project with greater awareness of potential obstacles (for realistic timelines and project plans)

In short: a data-led SAP transformation means a project that runs more smoothly, costs less, and delivers value faster.
